So what is this about? This time, it’s about focusing changing the way we share what is important to us in the process.

Bueda’s Reasonable Person Principle

Borrowing from CMU, Bueda is officially adopting the reasonable person principle. This will be the guiding advice for all things Bueda.

1 - Everyone will be reasonable.

2 - Everyone will expect everyone else to be reasonable.

3 - Everyone is special, so no one is special.

4 - Do not be offended if someone suggests you are not being reasonable.

Chat vs Discussion

As we prepare our public release (hang in there we are almost ready), we have been following closely a lot of activity that has been happening in this space. We see a few new communication tools, websites and platforms that are focused on group communication in different formats. Ranging from group text, with Group Me and the other fine folks currently at SXSW, to team communication such as campfire and convore, including new QA sites such as Quora and Hipster we have been thinking about a subtle but important difference in the format and way we communicate, meaning Chat vs Long Form.

Instant Messaging seems to be all the rage. Those magical instantaneous interactions, many times constrained to 140 characters, are certainly handy and useful in many situations, but as QA sites seem to point out, there is still the need for a space where people can explain themselves better, and have longer conversations.

The big question is, when is one appropriate vs the other? Which are the situations where it makes sense to focus on short form vs long texts? What are the pitfalls of one vs the other? In a discussion setting, when is rapid fire better than asynchronous communication?

As we try to understand what is our place within this fantastic ecosystem, we hope to understand this question better and use that understanding to create the best experience possible.

The New “Bueda” Thing

Bueda is on a new adventure, and we’ve just deployed the first private release of our new application to bueda.com. This replaces our previous company website.

What’s going on? 

No, we haven’t gone crazy (not more than usual, at least) and you are hallucinating. We have changed. A brand new product, a brand new page. 

What’s the new idea?

We want to create a better way to have discussion online. An easier way to do what you’re already doing - talking and typing, posting and linking. A place that can bring together the right people across networks around a specific topic. We want to take control of our e-mail discussions and end the days of RE:RE:RE:.

While brainstorming, we realized that a ton of information is created in e-mail conversations, and it get stuck there like Medicare in a lock box. This information is often lost after the conversation ends. Ever get a question you feel like you’ve answered before and find yourself typing the same reply all over again?

Everyone has their own style when it comes to managing e-mail - little personal hacks to get around problems with whatever e-mail interface he or she is be using. Labels, flags, and stars abound. Somehow, we still end up with long chains of e-mails and one too many people hitting “Reply All”.

As many before us have realized, we think that the way we use e-mail is broken. E-mail is a great medium for notifications, but we’ve been using it for complex discussions for years. The problem has compounded recently as our communication fragments across different social networks. How do you introduce one of your Facebook friends to one of your Twitter followers? E-mail is the lowest common denominator, so we often fall back to it in these cases.

We think we can help with Bueda, where you can easily create ad-hoc discussion groups around single topics or more permanent ones to keep you in touch with the people who can help you.

Bueda will be the place where you manage your discussions and social requests. It’s time to treat your discussions with the care they deserve, with an interface designed for modern online communication. They’re welcome at Bueda!
